UCSC volunteers help individuals connect with the resources they need.

In Uinta County, neighbors come together to help individuals and families build stability. Through local partnerships and access to community resources, the Uinta Community Service Center (UCSC) connects people with the support they need to move forward.

Whether someone needs help getting to work, finding stable housing, or putting food on the table, UCSC works with community partners to get them the resources they need.

General operating grants from funds held at WYCF help UCSC continue this work. This funding, made possible by donors who care, provides flexibility for the center to respond to community needs.

“Our work goes beyond financial assistance,” said Wayne Dennis, UCSC Board Chair.

The center provides funding when it can, reconnects people with loved ones, and offers training, classes, and resources from other agencies across southwest Wyoming.

Over the years, community needs have grown as the cost of living has increased.

The center received 135 calls in 2022, compared to 370 in 2025. During that time, requests for assistance increased from $46,000 to more than $91,000. On average, 34 high schoolers in Evanston are experiencing homelessness each year.

“I think people should know we have a growing problem in our town,” said Amelia Rutner, WYCF Evanston Area Local Board Member.

UCSC aims to create change by treating every family with dignity and respect, helping people build lasting independence.

“There is a big stigma when people don’t have money, and it’s very difficult to ask for help,” said Wayne. “We can help empower them and help them understand they can really make a difference. They have the ability to do that.”
