Dedicated to Giving Back

Helena De Fina Fund

Anthony Polvere will tell you his late wife Helena De Fina could, “soften the toughest cowboy you ever met.” When the Cody and Powell communities lost Helena suddenly, you can be sure even the toughest shed a tear.

Helena was one of those people who would light up a room. She was vivacious and kind, and never met a stranger. All those who knew her say she looked for the good in others, always. Helena’s passion for life and for giving back to the people and causes she loved, had a wonderful impact on her community.

As a prevention specialist working at West Park Hospital Prevention & Wellness, Helena was especially dedicated to issues around wellness – both physical and emotional. She loved her four-legged friends, the arts and was passionate about yoga. She and Anthony gave to support efforts around all of these things, and more.

When Helena passed, the community was devastated. But in that grief a group of her friends, headed by Diane Ballard, decided to do something to honor her tremendous spirit. “Helena always focused on the good and she was so dedicated to giving back,” says Diane. “Creating a fund to do the same was natural.”

Working with the Wyoming Community Foundation, Diane and the others set up the Helena De Fina Community Wellness Fund. The fund not only supported the causes she loved, but it also gave those who loved her something positive to focus on in a time of incredible loss.

Anthony and Helena’s friends are amazed with the support they have received for the fund– nearly $40,000 has been given. “The people here are salt of the earth,” Anthony says as he reflects on the outpouring of generosity he has felt, even beyond donations to the fund. “I can’t wait to start to give back.”
