On Saturday, January 9th, the Sheridan/Johnson Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Wyoming Community Foundation, distributed $5,000 in grant funds to Child Advocacy Services of the Big Horns (CASBH) to fund growing needs in Johnson County. The presentation was made at the annual CASBH Board planning workshop.
Child Advocacy Services of the Big Horns is a nonprofit organization serving Sheridan and Johnson Counties with family visitation and exchange services, and Court Appointed Special Advocates for children involved in the court system due to abuse or neglect.
From its inception, the Wyoming Community Foundation has included local affiliate boards and advisory committees throughout the state to assist in evaluating area grant applications and seek out grant making opportunities. The Sheridan-Johnson Community Foundation was established in 1997, and even though it is one of the youngest in the WYCF affiliate family, the organization has been very progressive in its evaluation process of area grant applications
The WYCF grant will be used to address the growing needs in Johnson County. In the last year, the Johnson County CASA program has trained 11 new volunteers, and demand for visitation and exchange services has grown. Mike Duncan, Executive Director of Child Advocacy Services, said “Our acceptance of this grant is our pledge to the Wyoming Community Foundation and our clients to continue to provide nothing less than superior, compassionate services. Our community deserves nothing less and the foundation expects nothing less.&rdquo
The Wyoming Community Foundation is a charitable organization that builds and preserves funds established by individuals, families, corporations, agencies, and private foundations. The Community Foundation uses the earnings from these funds to benefit community needs across the state of Wyoming. For information call 307-721-8300 or visit their website at www.wycf.org. |
